ALYSON POWERS
Alyson Powers, started acting in her grade-school years for various non-titled performances, and her love for movies began very early. The first movie she saw in a theater was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Her first celebrity crush was Darth Vader. Some things never change about people, the darker characters are always the more interesting ones. Throughout her years Alyson needed to be the goof of any party, desperately needing attention. Never having a solid ground anywhere and returning to the States after attending high school in Dubai, she ran away from home and had to let go of being a silly heart in order to grow up fast. Driving at 1am on a school night to Dallas at the age of 18, Alyson decided to independently find herself, and in a few months, she did. She found herself acting again. Through her college courses, she developed a love for literature. It is her belief that literature ultimately defines humanity. Her Christian-based background had her striving always for truth. The touchable aspect of literature is film. This became her new goal: be a part of the filmmakers’ world. She graduated from the University of North Texas with degrees in Creative Writing and Radio Television and Film. From there she worked as a production coordinator for Raygun Films, then on to Channel 7 KSWO in Lawton as a commercial producer. A good friend of hers, Gary Cogill, mentored her in film critiquing if only for a short span before he retired from the industry in 2010. She took a stint off from the industry to teach elementary and then high school while her two children were young. Her aspirations are to enhance the experience by supplying juicy bits of history, technique, or other random information to open eyes of audiences prior to succumbing to the art that is about to take over their lives for two to three hours. Her hope is that her strategy does not spoil but will increase enjoyment from each director’s cut.
